Versailles softball beats Coldwater in MAC opener

COLDWATER — The Versailles softball team won its Midwest Athletic Conference opener on Thursday, defeating Coldwater 8-5.Versailles coach Mechelle Heitkamp said she was pleased with her team’s performance in the victory and really happy with the team’s energy.“I was pretty happy,” Heitkamp said. “We still have a few things we need to work on, but I thought communication was good. I thought our pitch selection at the plate was nice, too, getting a little more disciplined there. I just thought the girls overall had positive energy and came ready to play, which was nice.”

 

Arcanum loses CCC game vs. Newton

ARCANUM — The Arcanum baseball team lost 4-0 to Newton Thursday in a Cross County Conference game.Newton scored one run in the second inning and added three more in the sixth.Arcanum had two hits and one error in the game. Newton had five hits and one error.Austin Ripple was the losing pitcher for the Trojans, who fell to 2-5 on the season and 1-1 in the CCC.
