BRADFORD — The Bradford boys basketball team beat Newton 63-45 Tuesday night for its first win of the season.
Bradford trailed 10-9 at the end of the first quarter but held Newton to five points in the second quarter, taking a 27-15 lead. The Railroaders led 41-34 at the end of the third en route to the 63-45 win.
“Things seemed to come together quite nicely,” Bradford coach Jeff Case said. “Our guys were patient, and we had some consistently. We had some discipline. We played really good basketball tonight.”
Both Brandon Wysong and Drew Patty had double-doubles for Bradford, led by Wysong’s 19 points and 17 rebounds. Also for the Railroaders, Patty scored 16 points, Bailey Case scored seven, and Cody Robinson scored seven.
Playing team basketball is what led Bradford to the win, coach Case said, after losing some winnable games earlier in the season.
“We played unselfish tonight,” he said. “We looked for the extra pass.”
Bradford returns to action with a Cross County Conference game on Friday at Mississinawa Valley.
“We’re going to build on this, and we’re looking forward to getting better, and we’re looking forward to our next game,” coach Case said. “We’re ready for the rest of our season, and we’re looking to do great things.”
