KETTERING - The Greeenville High School varsity cheerleaders took top spot in the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) north division earlier this month at the annual cheer meet.
The competition was held Dec. 7 at Fairmont High School’s Trent Area in Kettering, OH where 17 squads from all three GWOC divisions competed in individual and group categories.
The Greenville team won first place in the north division, beating out Piqua, Butler, Troy and Sidney.
In the individual competition Natalie Esarey (Junior), Tessa Schatz (Sophomore) and Serena Statsny (Sophomore) were named GWOC North first team; Taylor Amburgey (Senior), and Ariel Zeiler (Junior) were second team winners; and Mariah Williamson (Sophomore) received special mention.
Both cheer coaches issued these statements about the ladies’ efforts and achievements at the competition: “I am so very proud of the girls, they put there mind to it and succeeded. They worked so hard putting many hours and early morning practices to make this dream come true. They are an amazing and talented bunch of girls. I am a very proud coach,” Coach Kristalyn Bush said.
“I am so proud of all the young ladies and their hard work. Their dedication and perseverance in the last four weeks before GWOC competition paid off. So glad we continued to push until the end to get the best out of them. Now they are the GWOC North Champs! Congratulations ladies, we guided and coached you, but you giving your all got the win,” said Coach Carol Paul.
