GREENVILLE - Helen’s Flowers and Gifts in Greenville was chosen as a flower arrangement of the week on the Facebook page of Flowershop Network, an international flower chain, like Teleflora or FTD.

“This is a great accomplishment to our designers,” said Deborah Schafer, owner of the store since she purchased it from Helen Bruner in 1983.

It was Schafer’s daughter, Makenzie Boner, who got the ball rolling.

“Flowershop Network has a blog every week and you can put pictures to the Facebook wall,” Boner said. “I put three pictures on it. They choose so many pictures for the blog and all three of mine were chosen.”

And, one of her photos received flower arrangement of the week for the wedding bouquet she placed online.

“There were arrangements from Canada, Texas and two from Troy,” Boner said. “That is really a big accomplishment. There are millions of subscribers.”

Boner said she learned about the honor the local shop received.

“Their blogs are fun things for us,” she said. “We can see what’s going on around the world. I was scrolling down through it and saw it [the blog]. I found all three. It was pretty amazing. I get on their Facebook every morning and saw the part that said we won the weekly honors.”

Schafer is grooming her daughter, Makenzie, to take over the local floral shop within five years.

“Kenzie is doing a great job, expanding the wedding part of it,” Schafer said.”We’re here to service people. We want to make people happy and help them through hard times and good times too.”

“We have flowers for every occasion,” Boner said. “We have some great things for Valentine’s Day with free deliveries. There are new twists in floral arranging that people have.”

Schafer said she taught floral design classes before she bought the store and has been doing it for 46 years.

“I’ve been doing it for 14,” Boner said.

Other floral designers in the shop are Lisa Schultz Besecker and Emily Schlechty.
