GREENVILLE - The Daily Advocate recently hosted a Cutest Pet Contest, sponsored by Keller Grain and Feed, and the winner is in! Donna Kemp, a local business owner, and her dog Prissy, a member of the family for nearly 13 years, came in first place out of 207 entries, gaining 316 votes.

“…I picked her out when she was three weeks old - she literally fit in the palm of my hand. We brought her home at 8 weeks old, and she’ll be 13 years old on May 24,” Kemp shared. “She thinks she’s one of my kids; when my boys were little, she would jump in the bathtub with them, she’s always had a pillow on their beds, and she waits on them to finish their nighttime routines and come to bed. When the kids would play outside, she would whine and bark until they let her out to play with them.”

Kemp said she couldn’t have asked for a better dog, either.

“For being a little dog, you know a lot of times they get yippy, but she’s never been that way,” Kemp shared. “My son, when he was little, would just squeeze her…and she was always patient, she never nipped at him or bit him. She’s always been really good.”

Kemp has three children and a granddaughter, and of course Prissy. She enjoys fishing, but also staying active with her children, she said.

Submissions for the Cutest Pet contest were taken through the end of January, with voting from Feb. 16 to 28, explained Christie Randall, business development leader for The Daily Advocate.

Kemp said she “definitely campaigned,” telling friends and family to vote as often as they could.

“Of course, having the cutest dog helped,” Kemp said. “Though I may be a little biased.”

Kemp, the grand prize winner, will receive $100, and Keller Grain and Feed, the primary sponsor for the contest, also provided Prissy with a bag of dog food. Secondary sponsors for the contest included the Darke County Humane Society, Hometown Cable, Worch Lumber and Walmart Supercenter.
