Couple to mark golden anniversary

Bill and Barbara Ahrens will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on April 25 with a Mass of Thanksgiving at 6:30 p.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church, Versailles, with the Rev. James Simons officiating. Reception will follow in the Riviera Room at the Stillwater Golf Course.

Bill Ahrens and the former Barbara Schoenlein were married April 25, 1964, at St. Rose Catholic Church by the late Rev. Alyosius Dirksen.

Their wedding party included Dennis Ahrens, Connie (Schoenlein) Schmitmeyer, Paul Schoenlein, Betty (Schoenlein) Broering, Marlene (Ahrens) Ambos, Vernon Mescher and Linus Grieshop.

They are the parents of six children, Kevin and Susan (Wampler) Ahrens, Versailles, Bob and Joyce (Rethman) Ahrens, Versailles, Todd and Lynn (Ahrens) Kitzmiller, Minster, Dan and Linda (Wakefield) Ahrens, Versailles, Rodney and Amy (Fiely) Ahrens, Versailles, and Jason and Hollie (Baker) Ahrens, Versailles; and 22 grandchildren.

The couple were the owners of Bill Ahrens Plumbing & Heating Inc., which, after 35 years, was sold to their two sons.

“We are now enjoying traveling, gardening, fruit trees and attending our grandchildren’s sporting and extracurricular events,” they said.
