GREENVILLE — Seniors who love to dance will have a new place to go each week beginning Monday. It’s called the Treaty City Seniors Dance and it will be be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge 2177, 113 E. Third St.

Lynn Newbauer, who has organized this event, said the weekly dance is open to adults, mostly seniors, but people of any age are welcome. However, she asks that children not attend this event. Singles or married couples are invited to attend.

The dances will feature food available for purchase, soft drinks only, door prizes, 50/50 drawings and music by local Tom Everhart.

Newbauer said it was Tina McClanahan, the sales manager at Brookdale, formerly known as Sterling House in Greenville, who proposed the idea.

“I go to the dances at the Gathering Place in Eaton every week and I spoke with Tina there a year and a half ago,” Newbauer said. “She told me there was a need for something like this in Greenville. There was a need. I love older people I’m a people-person.”

She didn’t get on it right away because of having a knee replacement, but once she got better, Newbauer got the ball rolling.

“The Eagles are helping us out,” she said. “They want to give back to the community.”

Newbauer has gotten Brookdale to sponsor the dances for the first week of each month; Heartland of Greenville the second month; Village Green, the third week; and is looking for the fourth-week sponsor.

“My motto is ‘The more fun the better. Be happy!’” she said.

Cost for admission is $3 for singles and $5 for couples.
