Arcanum Public Library activities – November

ARCANUM — November is here, and December not far away. They both bring opportunities for family gatherings, shopping, exploring the outdoors and more.

The Arcanum Public Library would like to help patrons fill in their calendar with more options.

“You can start by finding a great book or movie, and head over to the computers to do some research,” said a spokesperson. “You could sit down and play one of our board games, and for those who need their devices to play a game, utilize the Wi-Fi. If you need to send or receive a fax, we can help. Want to find out more about your ancestry before those holidays gatherings? Come on in, and we can help with that too. We are also offering plenty of programming this month and next to keep everyone in your family busy.”

For children of preschool age, StoryTime sessions are held on Mondays. On November 14, 21 and 28, there will be two sessions each day. The first session begins at 10 a.m., and the second one begins at 11 a.m.

“Bring your child to enjoy stories, songs, crafts and fun,” the spokesperson said.

Also held on Mondays is the popular AfterWords program. Youngsters in grades 1-4 can come over after school from 3:45-4:45 for games, crafts, experiments, and more while having fun with friends. There will be sessions on November 14, 21 and 28.

A new program here at the library is a drop-in session for children grades 5 and up, held on Thursdays from 3-4:30. The TNT group will be meeting this month on Thursday, Nov. 17. We will then resume sessions in December. Participants can enjoy games, snacks, experiments, and having a lot of fun hanging out with friends. Be sure to check out the calendar on the library website for each day’s activities.

This month, the library will be showing the 2016 movie “The Jungle Book” on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 10:30 a.m. Popcorn will be served.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, adults are invited to come for the next “Coffee, Cocoa and Coloring” session at 10 a.m. Beverages will be served, and supplies are provided. “Relax a bit while creating something beautiful,” organizers said.

On Thursday, Nov. 17, the crochet club will meet for one more session this month, with more sessions planned for December. Come at 6:30 to learn how to crochet, work on a project, or learn how to finish one.

This month, the library is pleased to have on display many items from around the world that have been collected by a local veteran. He has put them out in our display cases for the public to enjoy. Come on in and take a look!

The library will be hosting a Gingerbread House decorating contest the early part of December. Come in to the library before the end of November to get details. The gingerbread houses will then become part of the library’s Christmas display for December.

As a reminder, the library will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday on Wednesday, Nov. 23, and on Thanksgiving Day. It will be open on Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26.

“Please give us a call, or drop in if you have any questions,” organizers said. “Our phone number is 937-692-8484. You can also check out our website at www.arcanumpubliclibrary.org, and find us on Facebook.”
