RICHMOND, Ind. – To celebrate the one-year anniversary of HIP 2.0, Reid Health is hosting a celebration featuring refreshments, information, sign up opportunities and a presentation by the director of Indiana Medicaid, Joe Moser. The free event is at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in Lingle Hall at Reid Health.

“We’ve had very touching stories where people just break down and cry when they’re given this coverage,” said Chris Knight, Reid Health Vice President/CFO. He said the HIP 2.0 program has definitely had a positive impact on community members who have qualified and on Reid Health’s ability to receive some reimbursement for services.

Business owners are encouraged to attend to learn how to help employees who qualify to sign up for coverage. Those with questions about eligibility or how to sign up should also attend. Insurance carriers and navigators will be on hand to answer questions and help attendees sign up for insurance.

Generally, coverage is for qualified low-income Hoosiers ages 19 to 64 with incomes of up to $16,297 a year for an individual, $21,967 for a couple or $33,307 for a family of four. The documents needed to sign up include a birth certificate, photo ID, and the last 30 days of income verification (pay stubs, etc.) for everyone in the household. Once signed up, coverage begins in from 40 to 60 days.

The featured speaker, Joe Moser, was appointed Director of Indiana Medicaid in November 2013. Joe oversees the policy and program direction for Indiana’s Medicaid programs, which currently cover 1.3 million Hoosiers.

In this capacity, Joe oversees the quality of the $11 billion program and ensures members are accessing services in the appropriate settings and when they need them. Joe is tasked with administering Indiana’s Medicaid programs efficiently and in the most fiscally responsible manner for Indiana taxpayers. Joe was a member of the team that developed the Healthy Indiana Plan 2.0 program.

Moser was the director of government affairs at Medicaid Health Plans of America (MHPA), a national trade association for Medicaid managed care organizations and worked in the U.S. Congress where he worked on Medicaid, Medicare, SCHIP, Indian Health Service and public health issues. He worked on legislation including the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003, the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009, and legislation that established the Medicaid Commission.
