Greenville City Council approves street bid

GREENVILLE — A bid proposal for improvements at the intersection of Ohio and East Main Streets received approval from the Greenville City Council during council’s meeting Tuesday night.

The total bid from Brumbaugh Construction Inc. of Arcanum is $1,336,079. It includes work on the streets, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water lines.

Council also approved a resolution which enters the city into a contract with Mote & Associates Engineering for the rendering of professional and civil engineering services.

Greenville Safety/Service Director Curt Garrison told council, in response to a prior request from council to examine other engineering services and prices, that he had contacted two other firms and that Mote’s pricing fell into a “middle of the road” of the three estimates.

Garrison also informed council that he and other city officials had met with Vectren Energy to discuss the company’s plans to replace bare steel gas lines in the city later in 2016.

Vectren will replace gas lines to 282 properties in Greenville. Most activity will take place on the south side of town, including Sweitzer Street, Chestnut Street and Euclid Avenue, among other streets in the area. Maps detailing the locations and timeframe of the work being done will be posted on the city’s website at www.cityofgreenville.org.

Greenville Mayor Mike Bowers presented his annual report to council, which details the activities and expenditures of each of the city’s department during 2015.

Council passed a resolution adopting a revolving loan fund plan. Though Darke County took over administration of the Community Development Block Grant two years ago, the city wants to maintain the agreement with the state in case circumstances change in the future.

“The state wanted us to renew our contractual agreement and we do not want to let that lapse, in case something does change down the road,” said City Auditor Roxanne Willman.

Council also voted affirmatively on a report submitted by the Finance Committee, which recommended acceptance of the city’s 2016 budget appropriations. The 2016 appropriations package was thereafter approved as an added ordinance.

The Greenville City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Municipal Building, 100 Public Square, in Greenville. Citizens are invited to attend and may address council during the “public hearing” portion of the agenda.
