COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Flags are flying at half-staff at Ohio government buildings and on public grounds in honor of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia (AN’-toh-nihn skuh-LEE’-uh).

Republican Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik) gave the order after Scalia’s death on Saturday at the age of 79.

The order is effective until Scalia is buried. Funeral plans had not been announced Tuesday.

Scalia joined the court in 1986 and was its longest-serving justice. He was known as a conservative voice on the high court.

Kasich called Scalia’s death “a serious loss” to the country and the court. The 2016 presidential contender called Scalia “an essential, principled force of conservative thought.”
