COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) is now offering a new specialty license plate, Military Sacrifice, to members of the immediate family of a person who died outside a combat zone while serving honorably as a member of any branch of the armed forces.

The plate was officially unveiled during a special ceremony June 9 at the Ohio Department of Public Safety. During the event, several distinguished military personnel spoke of their experiences while serving the country in the military. The special speakers included: Ohio Senator Chris Widener; Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Ron Rosser; Restless Hearts Author Dennis Baker; and Steve Loehrke, whose daughter, Sgt. Christina E. Loehrke Smith, was a military sacrifice victim.

“We are proud of those who serve our country, and are pleased that Ohioans can now honor family members who have died while serving outside of combat zones with this distinction,” said Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles Registrar Don Petit.
