Exit poll: Income, education divides Kasich, Trump in Ohio

0

Exit polls show Ohio Gov. John Kasich did well in his home state’s Republican presidential primary among voters who want a candidate with experience while Donald Trump got strong support from those looking for an outsider.

Kasich did well with higher income voters and those saying the economy is the most important issue facing the country. Trump was the favorite of voters without a college degree and those focused on immigration.

In Ohio’s Democratic primary, older voters and those with lower incomes favored Hillary Clinton while Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders had the backing of younger voters and those who said honesty is their preferred quality in a candidate.

The survey was conducted for The Associated Press and television networks by Edison Research as voters left their polling places.
