COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik) has signed into law legislation that seeks to raise awareness about communication disorders and recognize the wife of former U.S. Sen. John Glenn.

The measure designating Feb. 17 as “Annie Glenn Communication Disorders Awareness Day” was among 12 bills Kasich signed Tuesday. Others ban local hiring requirements, allow wine and beer sales at certain markets, extend autism scholarships and protect people from liability who damage a vehicle while trying to save a child or pet.

Annie Glenn became a public speaker after completing a program to address her stuttering. She is an advocate for others who have communication disorders.

The couple is from Ohio.

The bill’s supporters say the awareness day designation could help educate others about the challenges facing people dealing with communication disorders.
