Tri-Village grads defy all obstacles to get diplomas

NEW MADISON — Tri-Village High School awarded diplomas to its graduates Saturday evening, despite a temporary break in the action due to a tornado warning.

Halfway through the ceremonies, before the choir was slated to perform, students and their families were escorted to tornado shelter areas within the school. The pause, however, lasted only about 20 minutes until the “all clear” was given.

Upon returning, Tri-Village Principal Lee Morris joked to the crowd, “We’re usually able to evacuate students much quicker than parents,” then added, “The first intermission during a Tri-Village graduation is now complete.”

The Tri-Village class of 2016, composed of 60 graduates, and is the first class to start and finish in Tri-Village’s newer building. This year’s co-valedictorians were Zachariah Bevins and Casey Puckett. The class salutatorian was Sarah Witmer.
