UNION CITY – Two people were injured Tuesday morning after a car traveled off the side of the road and struck a utility pole.

On June 7 at 6:57 a.m. Darke County Sheriffs Deputies, along with Union City Rescue, Southwest Mercer Fire and Lutheran Air, responded to the injury accident in the 2100 block of State Route 705.

The preliminary investigation reveals that a black 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Jared Fennig, 21, of Union City, Indiana, was traveling west on State Route 705 and traveled off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a utility pole and continued west striking a second utility pole.

Fennig was transported to Mercer Health by Union City Rescue. A front seat passenger, Brittany Hiatt, 26, of Union City, was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Lutheran Air. On Tuesday afternoon, Fennig was listed in fair condition and Brittany Hiatt’s condition was unknown.

This accident remains under investigation.
