Registration is open for North Star’s Angel Run 5K

NORTH STAR – Registration is open for the 19th annual Angel Run 5K, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 17 during the Fireman’s & American Legion Picnic in North Star.

In addition to the 5K, there will be a fun run for children beginning at 8:45 a.m. on July 17. All races will start and finish at North Star Park on the east side of town in North Star.

Pre-registration for the races is due by July 8. The pre-entry fee for all ages with a shirt is $16. Without a shirt, it is $9 for runners and walkers ages 15 to 64 and $5 for those ages 14 and younger or 65 and older. The entry fee for the fun run is $1.

Runners and walkers also may register the day of the race beginning at 7:30 a.m. Pre-day registration with a shirt, which will be limited in supply, costs $20 for all ages. Pre-day registration without a shirt is $12 for people ages 15 to 64 and $5 for those 14 and younger or 65 and older. Fun run registration is $1. A shirt for non-participants is $11.

Plaques will be awarded to the top three overall male and female runners. Medals will be presented to the top three finishers in each age group as well. Door prizes also will be available.

Proceeds from the race will go to a $750 Angel Run scholarship, the North Star Fire Department and the North Star American Legion.

The Angel Run began in 1998 to remember Lynn Ann Topp, who went on a morning jog on Feb. 21, 1998, and never returned home. She was found murdered several weeks later. The run, which usually has more than 450 runners, now honors her legacy and all lost loved ones.
