Online pay option for city utilities

GREENVILLE — During Tuesday night’s Greenville City Council meeting, Safety/Service Director Curt Garrison announced that city residents now have the option of paying their utility bills online.

Those seeking to use the new service should go online to www.CityofGreenville.org and click on the “Utility Payment Online” icon which will take them directly to the registration page. They may also go to the drop-down “Government” menu, select “Departments,” then “Water,” then “Utility Bill Pay.”

To use the online pay system, new or existing utilities customers must register an account. To do so, customers will need their current or last utility bill, an email address, create a password and then create a recovery question and answer. A credit or debit card is required to make a payment using this service. There is a $1.95 fee incurred for use.

“There is no cost to the city for the service,” said Garrison. “The customer using the service incurs all the fees.”

Even if registered online, utilities customers are not required to use the online pay system. They may also mail in or drop off their payment. Garrison said anyone with further questions may contact the city’s utility department by phone at 937-548-1815.

Garrison informed council of the upcoming retirement of two city employees — City Treasurer Barbara Fee and Fire Chief Mark Wolf.

Fee will retire effective August 1. She’s been Greenville’s city auditor for 11 years. Her term ends Dec. 31, 2017. The county’s GOP will be charged with selecting a replacement in the interim until an election for a new city auditor is held.

Wolf’s last day on the job will be July 29. He’s been with the department since April 1988 and was named chief in July 2002.

In other business, council held readings on six ordinances and resolutions, but could not vote for final approval. With two council members not present, council was unable to read ordinances and resolutions a second and third time by title only.

Two ordinances establishing an aggregation program for gas and electric services for the city received second readings.

Council heard first readings on the following items:

  • An ordinance establishing a $10,000 limit on blanket certificates for purchase orders;
  • An ordinance authorizing the safety/service director to execute and deliver a contract to provide police services for Greenville City Schools for the placement of a second school resource officer;
  • An ordinance suspending enforcement of a code pertaining to home sales to accommodate the August 4-7 “World’s Longest Yard Sale;”
  • And a resolution accepting a bid by Synagro for management of city bio-solids.

All the measures will be further considered at council’s July 19 meeting.

The Greenville City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. in its chambers at the Greenville Municipal Building. Meetings are open to the public.

Utilities customers may now to pay their bill by credit or debit card through the City of Greenville website at www.CityofGreenville.org. Customers may also continue to send their payment through the mail or pay in person at the Municipal Building.
