Man falls asleep at the wheel, crashes into utility pole

ARCANUM — A Greenville man was injured Tuesday night after he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a utility pole.

On November 1 at approximately 9:17 p.m., Darke County Deputies along with Arcanum Fire and Rescue responded to the intersection of State Route 49 and Hollansburg-Sampson Road on the report of the one-vehicle, injury crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed, Craig S. Goubeaux 32, of Greenville, was driving a 1995 Green Dodge Dakota southbound on State Route 49 when he fell asleep and traveled across the center line and off the left side of the roadway hitting a utility pole knocking power out to some residents in the area.

Goubeaux was not wearing a seat belt and was transported to Wayne HealthCare for a head injury.

The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
