3 seriously injured in accident

DARKE COUNTY — Several people were seriously injured Sunday night in an accident near Laura.

On January 1, at 9:58 p.m. Darke County Deputies, along with Laura Fire and Arcanum Rescue were dispatch to the intersection of State Route 571 and Delisle Fourman Road in reference to the two-vehicle injury accident. Mutual aid was requested from Greenville Township Rescue and Union Township Rescue.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1997 Ford Expedition driven by, Chad Pierce, 27, of Arcanum was heading northwest on State Route 571. He attempted to make a left turn on to Delisle Fourman Road when his vehicle was hit by a 2005 Toyota Camry driven by Brandon Ervin, 23, of Tipp City, which was heading southeast on State Route 571.

Kelsey Tester, 22, of Greenville was a front seat passenger in Ervin’s vehicle. Pierce and Ervin were both treated at the scene by members from Arcanum Rescue and Union Township Rescue and were transported to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. Tester was treated by Arcanum Rescue and was transported by ground by Greenville Township Rescue to meet Miami Valley Hospital’s MICU, which finished transporting Tester to Miami Valley Hospital.

Ervin and Tester had a dog in their vehicle that was also injured from the accident. The Darke County Humane Society responded to the scene to take custody of the dog to transport it for medical care.

The accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.
