BRADFORD — The Miami County Special Response Team was called out following a domestic dispute and threats of suicide in Bradford on Saturday afternoon.

Miami County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an apartment on South Miami Street in the village around 3:30 pm. when a woman reported that her boyfriend was threatening suicide after an apparent domestic dispute.

Major Steve Lord said that the woman and a child were able to safely exit the second-floor apartment but believed that they heard a gun shot as they left.

“We had a barricade situation until we could get the tactical team on site,” said Lord, “We made entry and found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

The victim, whose name has not been released, was alive when team members found him. The Bradford Rescue Squad, who had been standing by since the event began nearly two hours earlier, went inside and brought the male victim to a waiting medic unit.

CareFlight responded to Bradford High School where the victim was transported to Miami Valley Hospital.

Deputies had several streets in the village blocked during the situation.

The incident remains under investigation.
