Greenville man dies in rollover accident

NEW MADISON – Samuel J. Barga, 19, of Greenville was killed Saturday night after he was ejected from a truck during a rollover accident.

At 9:54 p.m. Darke County deputies along with New Madison Fire, Hollansburg Fire and Tri-Village Rescue were dispatched to the 2000 Block of Mills Road on the accident.

The preliminary investigation showed a 2004 Ford truck was westbound on Mills Road. The truck went off the right side of the road striking a utility pole then a fence. The vehicle overturned coming to rest on its top.

A second occupant in the vehicle fled the scene on foot. The Darke County Sheriff’s office K9 was called to the scene and an intensive search was performed to try and locate the second occupant but was unsuccessful. The Darke County Sheriff’s Department accident reconstruction team was also called to the scene.

On Sunday at 7:18 a.m. Darke County deputies located the second occupant, identified as Tyler Holzapfel, 22, of Greenville. Holzapfel was arrested on an outstanding warrant unrelated to this investigation.

Barga was a former Greenville Senior High School wrestler.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and the Darke County Coroner’s Office. The case will be referred to the Darke County Prosecutor’s Office reference charges upon the completion of the investigation.
