ARCANUM —The Darke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident Tuesday night after the driver fled on foot.
On February 21 at approximately 11:22 p.m., Darke County Deputies along with Arcanum Police, Arcanum Fire & Rescue responded to the 5600 block of Hollansburg-Arcanum Road on a report of a one-vehicle possible injury accident with a utility pole knocked down.
The preliminary investigation revealed an unknown driver was operating a 1989 White Buick Riviera traveling westbound in the 5600 block of Hollansburg-Arcanum Road when the car traveled off the left side of the roadway striking a Vectren gas meter. The car then colliding with and knocked down a utility pole causing a short power outage for nearby residents.
Further investigation revealed the driver had fled on foot.
Crews from Vectren and Arcanum Power responded to the scene to restore electric and to stop the natural gas leak.
