DARKE COUNTY — During its regular Monday session, the Darke County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the hiring of a new operations manager for the Darke County Airport.
Seth M. Timmerman will take over as manager effective May 15. He replaces Dave Spiller, who submitted his resignation from the position in February of this year after 23 years on the job.
Timmerman is a recent graduate of Indiana State University with a four-year degree in Aviation. He currently lives in Union City, Indiana, but is looking at a residence closer to the airport.
“His job is twofold,” said John Cook, business administrator. “The operations and he’s also going to do some of the upkeep on the hangars.”
“When we interviewed him, of all the different ones we interviewed, he impressed me,” said Commissioner Rhoades. “He’s ambitious. It’s new life being breathed into the airport.”
“He has his pilot’s license. He’s adept at technology, he told us what he can do with website updates, very good with social media,” said Commissioner Aultman, noting Timmerman also has certifications in unmanned aircraft.
In the same meeting, the commissioners voted unanimously to serve an eviction notice to the former airport manager, who has been living in a mobile home on the grounds. The board is seeking removal of the trailer from the property.
“He was to be out of there and everything removed by March 31,” said Rhoades. “We gave him three months.”
In other business, the board passed a resolution declaring a public road as “Darke County Industrial Way.” This road is located in the county’s South Industrial Development and runs from County Home Road to State Route 49.
As well, the board approved the adverstising of bids for a half-acre portion of its Wagner Avenue property in Greenville for commercial purposes. The commissioners said they had been approached by an entity but were not at liberty to discuss the identity of potential buyers. The bids are due by June 7 at 1 p.m.
The Darke County Board of Commissioners meets every Monday and Wednesday at 1:30 p.m., except holidays. For more information, visit the board’s website at mydarkecounty.com/services/county-administration/.
