ARCANUM – Arcanum High School Graduates said goodbye, Sunday, June 4, as they received their diplomas.
The “Processional”, “National Anthem” and “Recessional” were performed by the Arcanum High School Concert Band, under the direction of Band Director Heather Marsh. The Arcanum High School Senior Choir sang “Humble and Kind”. The speakers included: Co-President Class of 2017 Brenna Loxley; Alumnus Class of 1995, Dr. Jeremy Mills; Salutatorian Kalista Harleman; Valedictorian Brittney Kinney; Principal Jason Stephan; various scholarship presenters and Superintendent John Stephens.
Supt. Stephens asked the graduates to give a round of applause to the family, friends, teachers coaches and principals who cared for and helped the graduates succeed.
“I have had the honor and privilege of watching you grow up first as your elementary principal, and now as your superintendent, and I have witnessed all that you have been capable of accomplishing,” Stephens said. “I have been impressed with your academic and athletic achievements, your musical and theatrical talents, your leadership and your service to others. It is now your time to venture out and take new challenges.”
“I believe that each and every one of you was created in life with a purpose,” Stephens said. “Some of you are well on your way to finding and fulling your purpose, others of you aren’t sure what your plans are. I’d like to tell you that finding your purpose is easy – but i can’t. I’m glad it wasn’t that easy, because I realize it was life’s interesting journey that makes your purpose worth it. If you are sitting there and you haven’t realized your purpose, you are not alone. Have faith and don’t be disheartened, because God has a plan for you. Believe in yourselves, challenge yourselves – you never know – you might surprise yourselves. Class of 2017, I encourage you to reach for the best in your future endeavors and to fulfill your purpose in life. May God bless you on your journey.”
The Arcanum Board of Education members presented the diplomas. The class color is white and sparkle orange, the flower is a white rose and the class motto is by Eleanor Roosevelt.
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”.
