WAYNESFIELD, Ohio — Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield) has announced her candidacy for Ohio’s 84th House District seat, which covers parts of Auglaize, Shelby, and Darke Counties, and all of Mercer County.

The seat is currently held by Rep. Keith Faber (R-Celina). Faber has announced he is running for Ohio Auditor in 2018. Faber’s nephew, Travis Faber (R-Celina), declared his candidacy for the 84th seat in June. The GOP primary election will be held May 8, 2018.

Manchester, who grew up on her family’s farm in Auglaize County, said, “I love this part of Ohio. This is my home, and I look forward to continue meeting many others who call West Central Ohio home and hearing about their priorities for their State Representative. Your voice is my priority.”

Manchester graduated from The Ohio State University in 2010 with degrees in Psychology and Political Science. After graduation, she spent a year in Venezuela leading a team of peers with Campus Crusade for Christ in developing a student-led mission organization at a Venezuelan university and partnering with a local indigent orphanage to support the needs of the children.

In 2011, she returned to the United States and moved to Washington, D.C. to work for Congressman Jim Jordan on behalf of the constituents of Ohio’s Fourth U.S. Congressional District. While working in Washington, Manchester earned her Masters Degree in Political Management from The George Washington University. Manchester spent nearly five years in Washington.

“I came back to Ohio because I saw how disconnected many D.C. politicians were from the day to day priorities of Ohio families. I was eager to return home to reinvest in the community that first invested in me,” Manchester said. Susan immediately took action by working for the Republican Party during the General Election of 2016, taking part in leading the Party and President Donald Trump to victory in Ohio and across the nation.

Manchester continues, “This past election perfectly demonstrated the power of the voice of rural Ohioans, and I plan to continue fighting for that voice in Columbus.”

Manchester is currently the Community Outreach Director for a non-profit organization focused on mentoring kids, where she actively recruits mentors for community-based programs across three counties; assists families with getting on the path to self-sufficiency; and provides ongoing support for relationships between mentors and mentees. She is an active member of New Hampshire Community Church, where she heads the Local Missions Team responsible for developing partnerships between the church and other organizations in the community. She leads worship at Sunday morning services and during the church’s weekly prayer room, and she leads a small group bible study.

Manchester said she has received many nods of support, and looks forward to earning many endorsements in the near future.

“I believe my youth and experience are my best assets,” she told The Daily Advocate. “I spent almost five years on Capitol Hill and learned the intricacies of the legislative process, from advocating for a bill’s merits to negotiating its key points to building coalitions of support, I understand what it takes to get things done. And even while I was away, I worked with families in this district to solve many of their concerns. I have the experience to get things done, and the energy to see the challenges through.”

When asked what specific measures she would like to introduce if elected, Manchester said it is difficult to pitch legislation from the outside without sounding “self serving.”

“What I can say, is that I have many ideas to move this district forward. But the best ideas belong to the people of the district, and I plan on meeting with everyone I can to listen to their concerns and their ideas,” she said. “I believe that government works best when it trusts the power of people and communities to create opportunities, support each other, and look out for each other. The voice of the 84th District is my priority, and I can’t wait to hear everyone’s ideas.”
