GREENVILLE — A resolution authorizing a contract between the City of Greenville and a consulting group was pulled from the agenda at Tuesday’s Greenville City Council meeting.
If approved, the proposal by the Montrose Group of Columbus, Ohio, would have cost the city $20,000 for a five-month project establishing Downtown Redevelopment Districts for the city.
Referencing a Daily Advocate story on the Versailles Village Council considering the same agreement with Montrose, but at a price of $15,000 versus $20,000, Safety/Service Director Curt Garrison said he thought the city should “take a step back and have further conversations” with Montrose. The legislation may be considered again at council’s August 1 meeting, pending any negotiations.
Votes on three other pieces of legislation listed on the agenda were also delayed.
Councilman Clarence Godwin motioned to suspend second and third readings of an ordinance amending zoning ordinances to modify the Architectural Review District to expand its jurisdictional territory, but council voted against the motion. Councilman Todd Oliver’s motions to suspend second and third readings of ordinances modifying business signs and murals in the Architectural Review Board District were also defeated. The three ordinances will receive their next reading August 1.
Council unanimously approved recommendations from the Finance Committee for street paving appropriations, funding for HVAC and roof repairs for city buildings, and funding for upgrading the city’s emergency dispatch equipment. A bond of $923,101 plus administrative fees will appear as legislation at council’s next meeting.
In other matters, council approved a resolution authorizing the acceptance of a Walls Brothers Asphalt bid for the 2017 street paving project; an ordinance waiving the water tap-in fee of $2,700 for the YOLO Organizaion’s urban park project; an ordinance authorizing the closure of the Transit Facility Fire Fund; and a resolution authorizing the filing of a petition for appropriation for a certain portion of private property owned by Brian Townsend for the DAR Sweitzer Street project.
In old business, council gave final approval to the erection of a Darke County Visitors Bureau kiosk, which will map out businesses and tourist attractions in Greenville and Darke County.
Darke County Visitors Bureau Director Matt Staugler said, “We appreciate council’s support of this project, and are excited about the opportunity to inform visitors and residents about the incredible experiences they can have in our area. We’ll continue to look for innovative ways to work with the city to market Greenville and Darke County.”
