Caterpillar honors Ramco for quality, delivery

GREENVILLE — More than 100 employees of Ramco Electric Motors gathered Wednesday at Romer’s Catering in Greenville to partake in lunch and an award being presented to the company by one of its customers.

Caterpillar Supplier Development Engineer Bart Preston and Process Control Engineer Bart Helmick were on hand to present a plaque to the company showing Ramco had obtained the “silver level” certification in Caterpillar’s Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP).

“Everybody in this room has a role to play in this,” said Preston. “I’d like to thank everybody and congratulate everybody for their efforts.”

Ramco produces a switched reluctance motor for Caterpillar’s asphalt paver and a traction motor for the D7E Caterpillar track-type tractor.

Ramco Quality Manager David Warner said a major benefit of participating in a quality award process is one obtains an “external evaluation of the business, and a confirmation and assessment of the current position of the business in comparison with the organization’s goals, competitors and best-in-class organizations.”

He said he believed the award process resulted in stronger participation by everyone at Ramco.

“Today was about getting recognition from our customer on the job that we’re doing in our facility — meeting on-time delivery, quality goals that they’ve set for us,” he said.

Ramco Sales Manager Ryan Beisner said the company closed shop for a few hours so employees could enjoy lunch and see the rewards of their hard work and dedication.

“We shut down production at noon to celebrate the award from Caterpillar,” he said. “There’s only 300 suppliers out of 10,000 total suppliers to Caterpillar in the United States who receive this award.”

“Ramco’s mission is 100-percent on-time delivery, 100-percent quality, and 100-percent customer satisfaction,” he added. “While we’re not there yet, this is called a ‘mission moment’ when our path to 100 percent is being recognized by our customers for the great work that we’re doing. We wanted to make sure we took time out of our day to celebrate.”
