Suspicious activity proved false

NEW MADISON – On May 3 at 3:25 p.m., a Darke County Deputy was dispatched to Tri Village Schools in the Village of New Madison reference a complaint of a male driving a white colored SUV and wearing a black hoodie. This person made attempts to lure two 10-year-old males to his vehicle.

Darke County Deputies reviewed video footage and interviewed employees at several area businesses. A witness advised that they observed and spoke with the boys on their walk home. The Deputy assigned and the Tri Village School Resource Officer interviewed both boys and the witness. One of the boys admitted that this report was false.

After this extensive investigation, evidence proves this incident did not happen. The 10-year-olds made up the story for no particular reason.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office takes reports like this very seriously and investigates them vigorously. Sheriff Toby Spencer encourages everyone to report any suspicious activities.
