GREENVILLE — Once again, the Lighthouse Christian Center will be hosting its annual free Christmas dinner, with the meal being served starting at 11:30 a.m. on Christmas Day.
“Christmas is the time of year for joy an happiness, but for those who are lonely or less fortunate, it can be a very sad time of year,” said Barbara Fee, chair of this 34th annual dinner and wife of the pastor, Hershel Fee. “This is the reason for the past 33 years the Lighthouse Christian Center, along with area business and community volunteers, treated those persons to a free Christmas dinner.”
The meal this year consists of ham, chicken, barbecue pork, dressing, green beans, corn, escalloped potatoes, cole slaw, bread, butter, milk, coffee and complete with Wick’s pies for dessert.
“In addition the meal, we have a treat of candy, fruit and gum, especially for the children,” Fee said. “We also have numerous door prizes for the adults and gifts for the children. The past few years, we have had bicycles as door prizes for the children. We are planning to give away 30 bikes this year. Even in the bad economy, the businesses and the more fortunate have been very generous this year and we expect to have lots of food and gifts and to have lots more door prizes this year to make Christmas more enjoyable for more people.”
Reservations, she said, are requested for the dinner so that those preparing the meal will know how much food to make.
“But you can come without them [reservations],” she said. “Leave a message with the age of your children so we can have the appropriate age gift.”
To make reservations, call 937-548-7464,
“If you know of a shut-in who needs a meal, call this number and put his/her name on the list; leave a message if no one answers and someone will return the call,” she said. “Come and have fun and lots of fellowship.”
