BRADFORD — The Bradford Public Library offers a variety of events this month and next, including:

• Thursday, Sept. 24

The Darke County Chapter of the American Red Cross will again be at Bradford Public Library with their new program called “Citizen CPR.” This workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is for ages 6 through adults.

“Citizen CPR” is a campaign to educate and empower citizens on how to take necessary action to care for themselves, their families and their neighbors and educate others about what to expect during and after a disaster or life threatening event.

Contact the library to sign up your child for this program in advance.

• Monday, Sept. 28

The Trustee Board of Bradford Public Library will hold its monthly meeting on at 5:30 p.m. Members of the community are encouraged to come. Usually the meeting takes about one hour. It will be preceded by a Building and Grounds Team meeting at 4:45 p.m.

Looking Ahead

The Mentor Reading Club will take place on Mondays from 6:30-7:00 p.m. in October. Elementary children who need to read, rehearse and practice can sit down with one of our teens for about a half hour each week. The teens will incorporate good reading strategies with the youth to help improve the reading skills, comprehension and gain confidence in themselves. Your child’s teacher might also be interested in giving specific goals on which to work. Please contact the library to sign up your child; this is mandatory in order for pre-planning and appropriate materials.

A second program the library is interested in initiating is an Offsite Book Club. Instead of meeting at the library for the book club, participants would meet at another community location or individual’s home. We would like to know of any area patrons, age 18 to 99 who would be interested in such a program. We would like to gauge the genre of books to be read and level of interest form our area community. Contact the library toward the beginning of October. Pamphlets will be ready at that time for everyone. We currently have a wonderful book club on-site called “Sisters-n-Spirit!” This book club has been ongoing for a number of years and new members are always welcome.

Computers and Mouse 101 will be taught Tuesdays, Oct. 13, 20 and 27 from 6-7 p.m. This workshop for individuals who know very little about a computer, the Internet and how to manage the “mouse.” The sessions are free and all materials will be provided for you. We will begin by working on the library’s computers. For those who may have taken a beginning computer and/or Internet class and are still somewhat confused, muddled or bewildered as to what to do with their personal computer, laptop or tablet. Contact Cherie at (947) 448-2612 to schedule an individualized session to meet your specific needs and on your own device, be it computer, laptop, etc. Bring your questions along. If you do not bring your own device, we will have one for you. We can assist you in logging in to our Wi-Fi.

The library will be open at the following times during the Bradford Pumpkin Show, which runs Oct. 4-10: Monday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday — closed, Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday and Saturday — closed.
