VERSAILLES - Crews were working Tuesday at the Versailles Church of Christ to take down the 195-year-old church’s steeple. The spire was the first thing to be taken down and then the bell, which will go inside as renovation continues at the church. “It’s sad to see it go,” said Jane Stall, a 37-year member of the church. “It’s like a landmark.” The steeple will not be replaced, according to her, because of the expense, which she believes would be $80,000. She said the whole church is in the process of getting renovated.
