GREENVILLE - Little Jerico Johnson made it a little easy for his mother when he arrived early safe and sound on the first day of the new year at Wayne HealthCare.
“I woke up and my water broke and woke my boyfriend up,” said Courtney Stephens of Bradford. “I came here at 9 a.m. and had him at 4:10 p.m. Contractions began an hour before and labor started in 31 minutes.”
Her obstetrician Peter Lachiewicz delivered the baby.
“Everything went very well,” he said. “All of the [maternity] care was done in Greenville.
“I had an easy pregnancy,” Stephens offered.
The infant weighed 6 pounds 3 ounces and measured 19 1/4 inches long at birth.
“He looks like his father [Ian Johnson of Versailles]”, according to 19-year-old Stephens, who was due Jan. 20.
Because the baby came early, the baby’s crib had not even been set up at home yet, but the newborn’s mother thought it would be when she and her son were to get home from the hospital on Friday afternoon.
As with all of the babies who are born on the first day of a new year at Wayne HealthCare, the family receives gifts from the volunteer auxiliary of the medical facility.
“We needed a lot of baby stuff,” Stephens said.
“Someone sent in a knitted blanket to be put with the gifts,” a nurse remarked.
Jerico is the grandson of Bill Johnson of Versailles, Tabatha Johnson of Covington, Shawn Stephens of Muncie, Ind., and Amy Hensel of Bradford.
