Lucretius knew that what was food for one man is bitter poison to others. Considering shrimp- Americans’ favorite seafood – perhaps the possibility of poison should be emphasized.


Foreign shrimp, we read, is seldom inspected, and frequently “farmed” in ponds thick with chemicals – e.g. pesticides and borax. Researchers found that imported shrimp contain many species of bacteria resistant to antibiotics.


Presumably, the wild shrimp caught in Oregon and Canada drawn from the Pacific, represent a healthier alternative. Thus may one avoid the “bitter poison” of chemicals and salmonella.
