VERSAILLES – An industrial accident Tuesday at Codino’s Limited Inc. claimed the life Versailles resident Allyson Mescher, 37, an employee of nearly five years, according to Versailles Police Department Chief Mark Humphreys.

“She had talked to a coworker and said she was going to the bathroom, but was going to check the extruder to see if any product was going down the line. A coworker said she went to check on her and found her,” Chief Humphreys said.

He said that they knew who she was at the scene.

“We got the call at 1:41 (p.m.), so it happened just before that,” he said.

“The family was notified yesterday afternoon — the immediate family, her mother and stepfather and one step brother.”

The call for help went out to local emergency services on Tuesday that a worker was caught in an extruder and that it was a possible death. The extruder was used in food processing for the pasta manufacturer.

Codino’s didn’t want to release her name until notifying the family.

“We haven’t ruled anything other than an industrial accident and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is doing their investigation and they’re back today,” Chief Humphreys added.

OSHA has confirmed that they have opened an investigation of the fatality and has investigators on the site.

“We’re gathering information to determine what might have happened,” said Scott Allen, OSHA spokesman. “What OSHA is going to do is talk to the employer, employees and potential witnesses and what occurred there at the incident and if the company was following all of the proper procedures.”
