ARCANUM — The Arcanum Village Council met Tuesday evening to discuss several items of new business, including a change in utility billing policy, Mayor Judy Foureman said.
All utilities are now required to be paid by the 15th of the month, which really is only a change for sewage, she said. After 5 p.m. on the 15th, a 10 percent late fee will be assessed, she said. If residents haven’t paid their utility bills by the 22nd day of the month, they will have until 8:30 a.m. on the 23rd day of the month to pay or their utility service will be shut off and the customer will be assessed a $50 fee, Foureman added.
The council also approved a resolution to enter into a contract agreement with Arcanum-Butler Local Schools for security personnel at after school and extracurricular activities, something they have done for years, Foureman said.
A resolution was approved declaring the village’s intent and reasonable expectation to reimburse its Wastewater Treatment Lagoon Alterations Fund for the Lagoon Project. Resolutions declaring the necessity for a 1.6 mill general operating tax levy, and a 0.5 mill general operating tax levy, were approved, and the village will proceed with certification to the Board of Elections.
The first readings were held for contracts between the Arcanum Volunteer Fire Department and Van Buren Township, Twin Township and Ithaca. Several ordinances also entered into their first reading, including the water fund, general, fire and sewer fund, parks, pool and recreation levy fund, fire equipment levy fund and the fire fund.
The final reading was held for the community pool ordinance.
