GREENVILLE - Greenville City Council met Tuesday evening to pass five ordinances and resolutions, including an ordinance to increase staffing at the Greenville Police Department, said Mayor Mike Bowers.

Greenville’s police force will increase to 16 officers, due to adding a contract with the Greenville City School District to provide a school resource officer (SRO) at the high school, Bowers stated before Tuesday’s meeting.

“Because we’re looking at providing a school resource officer for the school this year, we have to pass an ordinance for another officer position,” Bowers noted. “We want to make sure we have all our ducks in a row…”

The ordinance passed Tuesday evening amended Ordinance No. 13-54 to increase the personnel for Greenville Police Department to 16.

Another ordinance was passed to appropriate $15,375 to transfer funds to finish out the pool season, Bowers explained.
