UNION CITY — The Union City Chamber of Commerce serving the state line communities in Ohio and Indiana will celebrate Independence Day with a Family Fun Day and Fireworks Display Saturday, July 5.
In an effort to continue its annual tradition it offers this night glowing with magnificent colors.
The day begins with a Family Fun Day at 4 p.m. at shelter No. 8 and the fireworks display starts at dusk. The fireworks display is expected to last about 25 minutes.
“Family Fun Day is an event for the kids with games and food,” Chamber President Vanessa Galway said. “The Chamber of Commerce will be selling hot dogs, sloppy joes, soda and popcorn, with proceeds going back to the Chamber.
“It’s a late afternoon-evening event at the Harter Park Horse Barn Arena in the center of the park,” Galway said.
Union City Indiana’s Harter Park is 60 acres located on Union City’s west side.
“We will be having shuttle service for people because they have to park back in the park by the tank (by Oak, Pearl and Jackson Pike streets),” she added. The shuttle is sponsored by Carts and Parts in Union City, Ind.
The Union City Indiana-Ohio Chamber of Commerce will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to accept cash donations for the display at 227 West Oak Street, in Union City, Indiana.
Folks also may send a check donation to Union City Chamber of Commerce, Commerce Fireworks Committee, P.O. Box 424 Union City, IN 47390.
The local Union City police and fire departments will be monitoring the event for safety and note that no other fireworks or alcoholic beverages will not be allowed in the park.
“Our goal is to raise $5,000,” Galway said. It also hopes to have enough funds to provide the deposit for next year’s celebration.
“We just have an afternoon planned of fun and games for the family, so everyone is welcome to come out.”
