“Permission to Teach” is the newest book by a local author. Jeanne Nordstrom, long time elementary teacher at Tri-Village, will introduce her book at the New Madison Public Library today at 5:30 p.m. Jeanne shares experiences from her first teaching assignment through her retirement.

Her many former students will enjoy sharing time again with Jeanne as she walks her readers through the ups and downs of a career in the classroom. Copies of her book will be available.

This will be a busy day at the library as it also will be hosting the Robert Bennett Memorial Wildlife Encounter. Brukner Nature Center will provide the programming. The event is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. It will feature a bat, snake and turtle. Bob loved wildlife and always supported the library. A memorial fund will continue to sponsor wildlife programs for the children.

The library will be offering snow cones during the July 4 celebration. Visit the booth across the street from 1 to 4 p.m. and also pick up a brochure on the library services. This is the kick-off to inform November voters of a renewal levy to keep the library’s books, services and programming available.

The Friends of the Library will have its annual book sale and there are some great reads! The sale begins Thursday and runs through Monday.

Continuing with the summer reading program, be sure and circle July 6. It is local heroes night and police, fire and emergency personnel will visit with the children.

During the upcoming Independence Day celebration, you will find lots of good food and home town entertainment. Of course it is capped by the fireworks!

Begin the day with pancakes and sausage. The Fort Black Masonic Lodge will begin serving at 7 a.m. and sleepyheads have until 11 a.m. It is all you can eat and the Tri-Village Junior High cheerleaders make sure you have plenty of opportunities for refills. There will be food in various booths and food wagons and also at the Civic Center. At 5 p.m. the Legion will have box chicken dinners. Plan to enjoy the parade, children’s games and flea markets prior to the oohs and ahs at 10 p.m. when the fireworks fill the sky.
