On July 11, the owners of Kennedy Vineyard, 3911 State Route 722, New Madison, will be hosting Jamming for Justin (fundraiser for Justin Troutwine) with music by Tommy Renfro. The Kennedy family will be donating all the food so all proceeds from food sales will be donated to the family. They will have burgers, hot dogs, chicken, chips, sides, and et cetera.

The winery will open that day at 2 p.m. and they will fire up the grill around 4, with music to begin at 6:30. Come out and enjoy some great wine, great food, and amazing music. As always Kennedy Vineyard is family friendly and will have non-alcoholic beverages available for any designated drivers or those not able to consume alcoholic beverages.

Are your kids ready to have a blast? Then they won’t want to miss a nanosecond of Operation Space VBS at Immanuel Baptist Church, 500 West South Street Arcanum, and the coolest spot in this corner of the cosmos! At Operation Space, kids will experience a galactic adventure like no other as they enjoy songs, crafts, games, goodies, and skits. They’ll also have a close encounter with God’s Word. It promises to be an out-of-this-world experience, so plan on joining them the week of July 13-17, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. daily for ages 3 years old through sixth grade. It’s time to prepare for launch! Closing program will be July 19 at the Arcanum Pool with hot dogs and snacks. For more information, call the church office at 937-692-8188. This Saturday is Family Day at the Arcanum Pool – a special event has been planned for the community-FREE Swim Awareness Training will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for all members of the community. Have you ever wondered if your children could safely attempt the diving board even though they are an excellent swimmer? Do you or your children have some “fears” of being in the pool? All these questions and more will be addressed by the lifeguard staff during this special FREE Awareness Training on Saturday morning in both one-on-one and group sessions. Stick around for Lunch – the first Picnic At The Pool of the summer will start at noon and the special admission price of $2 per person for the day. Arcanum village staffers will be heating up the grill and serving hamburgers and hotdogs with chips and applesauce for $3 per person from noon to 2 p.m.

The Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society Coffee and Conversation series continues July 11 at 10 a.m. when Rick Hunt and Sue Hunt Besecker bring back memories of what it was like growing up in our small town during the 50s and 60s. Along with their siblings Dick and Ted they kept their parents, Lloyd and Myrna Hunt, busy. It’s a fun time to relax and exchange stories, remembering families, friends and events while enjoying light refreshments. You are encouraged to tell your stories, too; or just come to listen and be ready to laugh. Join them at 123 W. George St to hear stories and tell us what you remember; memories which will help preserve the history of our people. The series is free; students are welcome. This is a chance for newcomers to learn more about our area.

Faith United Methodist Church will be hosting a community blood drive on July 18 from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Anyone wanting to donate may contact Don Taylor at 692-5765 or Dana Puterbaugh, Darke County representative at 997-2199 for an appointment. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are accepted.

Local residents DeWaine and Peg Minnich of Arcanum are proud to announce that their granddaughter, Allison Babylon auditioned for American Idol in Indianapolis on June 25. Allison was chosen to attend the Round Two auditions to be held in Los Angeles which will air on television later this summer. Allison is the 16-year-old daughter of Tom and Jenni Babylon of nearby Covington, where she is a junior at Covington High School. Allison loves to sing and play the guitar and has been performing locally for several years. In her spare time, she is on the cross country team, plays softball at CHS and also pitches for the Canons Traveling Softball Team.
