Arcanum News: End of summer brings start of new school year

Arcanum-Butler Schools announce opening information for the first day of school on Aug. 30.

Parents are urged to register students new to the district as soon as possible. Registration for all buildings takes place at the superintendent’s office at 2011 Trojan Ave., phone 692-5174, extension 1319 between the hours of 8 to 11 a.m. and 1to 3 p.m. The first day will be a regular day of school, with all grade levels attending regular sessions. The school day for grades 5-12 is 7:35 a.m.–2:30 p.m. with breakfast available beginning at 7:20 a.m. Grades K-4 will attend 8:55 a.m.-3:30 p.m., with breakfast available starting at 8:30 a.m. MVCTC juniors began school on Aug. 11 and MVCTC seniors began on Aug. 12. The MVCTC bus departs from the north parking lot at 7:20 a.m.

Parents of kindergarten children are reminded that the following requirements must be completed before their child will be considered properly registered: a) completed registration and physical examination forms, b) birth certificate and immunization records on file in the elementary office, and c) payment of kindergarten fee of $50.00.

Parents should note that the student lunch prices for the 2016-17 school year are as follows: Grades PK-2 $2.35, grades 3-12 $2.65, milk $ .50, and breakfast $1.85. The cafeteria will be open the first day of school, and will serve a Type “A” lunch as recommended by the Ohio Division of School Food Service. Important dates leading up to the start of school include: Aug. 22 middle school schedule pickup 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 23 middle school schedule pickup 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and kindergarten open house 6 to 7 p.m., and on Aug. 25 fifth-grade orientation at 6 p.m., and on Aug. 29 a district open house (grades 1-12) will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Bus route information and school supply lists are posted on the school website at www.arcanum-butler.k12.oh.us.

Arcanum High School is planning to honor members of the 1981 football team, 1986 football team, 1996 girls golf team, 1996 girls cross country team, 2001 girls golf team, 2001 boys golf team, 2016 baseball team, and 2016 softball team at the Sept. 23 home football game. Please plan on attending; it is always a great night to meet up with old friends and reminisce! Administrators, coaches, and teachers look forward to having these fine students back to celebrate your team’s accomplishments!

The Arcanum High School Department of Athletics would like announce athletic pass prices for the 2016-17 fall and winter seasons. Student passes are $35 for both fall and winter seasons and $20 for fall or winter. Adult passes are $100 for both seasons and $85 for one. Family passes will also be available for individuals who reside in the same household and can be purchased at $200 for both seasons and $150 for one season. Persons 65 or older will receive free admission to events. “Pass Plus” passes will be available again this year. Fall “Pass Plus” includes admission into the high school football game and reserved seating. Fall “Pass Plus” for an individual is $30, $15 for age 65 or older, and $15 per person for a family. Winter “Pass Plus” for high school boys and girls basketball will not be available until after Nov. 15. Prices are $80 for an individual, $40 for age 65 or older, and $40 per person for family. Athletic passes will be available to purchase on the following dates: Aug. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the high school cafetorium; and Aug. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the ticket gate of the high school volleyball match vs. Fort Recovery. Arcanum Varsity Football pre-season has already started, the first official game of the season will be at Riverside on Aug. 26 at 7:30 p.m.; and the first game in the CCC on Sept. 2 at Covington. The first home game will be on Sept. 9 versus Tri-County North at 7:30 p.m. Good luck Trojans!
