New Madison News: Library to honor volunteers

0

Carol Bradford will be recognized at the New Madison Public Library’s holiday open house on Tuesday, December 12. Bradford is the volunteer of the year. Her service is valuable to the library and according to Brenda Miller, director, she provides special treats for events and has taken on the task of tree decorating the past two years. She helps whenever called to assist the staff in keeping the library a warm and welcoming place in New Madison.

Bradford is retired from school food service and enjoys cooking. Active in her church, she also stays busy with the Darke County Steam Threshers. Several blue ribbons from the fair represent a special hobby: quilting.

A presentation at 6 p.m. will honor her with the Phyllis Cole Dubbs library service award. The open house is a small town tradition and cookies and punch will be served as patrons visit throughout the day. Stop in and share the holiday with the library staff. The refreshments will be served beginning at 10 a.m. There will be music from 3 to 6 p.m.

When you hear the ringing of bells at Darke County businesses you know that it is time to help Darke Countians who are facing Christmas with need. The bells will ring at the mini mart in New Madison this coming week end. You can share in making the holiday brighter for our neighbors.

The live nativity will be staged again this year in downtown New Madison. Area churches are working working together to bring the manger scene on Dec. 17th. Your friends and neighbors will be dressed as Joseph, Mary, shephards and angels. Live animals will be add to the scene. This presentation is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Cookies will be served. Plan this local Christmas event with your children.

Congratulations to the staff at Tri-Village for guiding students in the goodness of the season as they move closer to meeting a goal of $16,000 for their adopt a family project. The school will help with food, toys, gas and toiletry items for 15 families! Over the years this has become a major project and directs the student energy into a positive holiday spirit of helping others. A special tip of the hat to Mr. Honeycutt, faculty member. He will look a little different after the fundraising ends because his challenge to the students meant a special Mohawk hair cut with some red and blue coloring! This event followed having 779 pounds of food in November for the Fish Food Pantry. Good things are happening in the school!

Congratulations to Jared Buckley for being named to the all Ohio second team offense as a punter. Jared is a senior.

Congratulations to the recent anniversary of Clarence and Belva Baker. The couple celebrated 60 years on November 29.

Take time to enjoy the local activities and all area churches welcome your visit during this holiday time.
