The Focus: Spiritual maps needed

0

Do you have a GPS on your cell phone or in your car? Aren’t those the neatest little devices? You feel pretty secure driving through unknown territory with a soft voice telling you … “Turn left 500 feet!” … “Take the next exit ramp, 600 feet to Main Street.”

Last summer my wife and I were in Chicago, Illinois, to pick up our daughter at the airport. As we were heading home the traffic in Chicago was horrific. We immediately cued into our GPS and it directed us around the traffic jams. It was great!

It is certainly uncomfortable to be in a position of not knowing where to go or which way to turn. We have become reliant upon our GPS’s, street signs, highway markers, and even the exit doors in buildings are easily marked.

In fact, recently I was in a large shopping mall and wasn’t certain where a particular store was located … and right as I walked into the mall entrance – – there stood in front of me a large marquee which highlighted the location of each store in the mall. My feet were grateful for that sign!

BUT … have you discovered that the path of life is not equipped with such signs?

That is why God created three spiritual ‘maps’ for us to follow.

The first is the BIBLE. Without a doubt, within the pages of His holy book is guidance for every situation we will encounter.

The second ‘map’ is that God has provided wise TEACHERS to help us grow in understanding His book of instruction.

Finally, we are given a most-important inner-GPS in the HOLY SPIRIT.

In Isaiah 11:2 we read about the qualities of the Holy Spirit as they would appear in the person of Jesus Christ. “The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him – the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and fear of the Lord.”

And the AWESOME NEWS for us a Believers is that all the qualities of the Holy Spirit are available to each of us today!

When you choose to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior – you received (as a gift!!) the Holy Spirit, and you were given this personal Guide to help you on your journey through life.

So, the next time you’re feeling ‘lost’ and have no idea which way to turn – – you need only listen for His inner promptings. “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE!” (John 14:6 – NLT)

I like what Dr. Charles Stanley said, “As you walk through the valley of the unknown, you will find the footprints of Jesus both in front of you and beside you.”
