Community blood drive this week

Do not forget the Blood Drive this Thursday — There is a rally to Save Lives sponsored by the Arcanum and Franklin-Monroe schools with a blood drive. Together we can make a difference! The blood drive will take place Thursday, Sept. 10 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Gordon United Methodist Church, 311 East Main Street in Gordon. An appointment and a face mask is required, to sign up for a donor time go to: www.donortime.com. The blood drive will be coordinated with the Community Blood Center from Dayton. All donors are asked to use the Sponsor Code 235 when singing up. Any questions, please call 1-800-388-GIVE.

The Twin Township Trustees are hosting a cemetery stone cleaning and workday Saturday, Sept. 12 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. The township will supply water, D2 and soap. Those interested in helping should bring a bucket and a soft bristle brush. Interested participants can email an RSVP to [email protected] or text 937-423-1085. This is a great community service project for older students and adults. Organizers look forward to a great workday and lots of volunteers!

A Community Prayer Gathering and Walk will take place September 26 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. beginning at Veterans Park on West George Street. People of all faiths are invited to come together to pray for our families, our schools, and our nation. The Walk is in conjunction with the Prayer March organized by the Rev. Franklin Graham for September 26 in Washington, D.C. Those wishing not to walk may sit in the park to pray. Anyone using licensed golf carts, motorized scooters, and/or 3-wheeled bikes are encouraged to join in this time of community prayer. Let us join together to lift our voices in prayer during these difficult times. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed during this event. Watch here for more details.

The Darke County Waste district will be hosting its Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection and appreciate the opportunity to be of service to you. To participate, you must come to the Darke County Fairgrounds Swine Barn between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon on October 3. For this event, there will be no preregistration. This is open to Darke County residents only, no business, school, agriculture, or industrial wastes. They will accept the following items: paint (oil and latex), pool chemicals, gasoline/kerosene, household cleaners, antifreeze, varnishes/stains, mercury, turpentine, fertilizers/pesticides, 20-lb. propane tanks only, and prescription medications. They will NOT accept asbestos, explosives, ammunition, radioactive materials, fireworks, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, medical waste, infectious waste, electronics, tires, or 55-gallon drums. Check out the display at the public library this month by the Arcanum Preservation Society.

APS is looking for volunteers being a part of the continuing story of the Opera House. Recently they received accreditation and also the building was certified as an historic landmark in the State of Ohio.
