Mississinawa Valley to induct 2 into Hall of Fame

UNION CITY – Mississinawa Valley will hold its Athletic Hall of Fame night on Jan. 29.

The induction ceremony will take place between the junior varsity and varsity boys basketball games vs. National Trail. The junior varsity game will start at 6:30 p.m.

The 2016 Mississinawa Valley Athletic Hall of Fame class inductees are Trent Heitkamp and Gary Peace.

Trent Heitkamp is 2010 graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School, who participated in football, basketball and baseball. Heitkamp was an accomplished athlete in all three sports, earning postseason honors and holding many school records.

During his football career, he earned Cross County Conference first team honors as a junior (2008) and as a senior (2009). He earned Southwest District first team honors as a punter his senior year (2009). He also earned all-state honors as a punter his senior year (2009), Dayton Daily News first team honors his senior year (2009) and Daily Advocate first team honors his junior year (2008) and senior year (2009).

Heitkamp currently holds or is tied for five school records in football: longest pass completion of 86 yards (2009), longest pass completion for a touchdown of 86 yards (2009), tied for most interceptions in a game with three (2009), tied for most interceptions in a season with eight (2009) and career punting average of 39.74 yards (2006-09).

During his basketball career, he earned CCC first team and Daily Advocate first team honors as a junior (2008-09).

During his baseball career, he earned CCC first team and Daily Advocate first team honors as a senior (2010).

Heitkamp currently holds seven school records in baseball: runs score in career with 78 (2007-10), hits in a season with 41 (2010), hits in a career with 121 (2007-10), RBIs in a season with 29 (2010), RBIs in a career with 93 (2007-10), home runs in a season with seven (2010) and home runs in a career with 20 (2007-10).

Heitkamp was also awarded in the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award in 2009.

Peace is a 2011 graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School, who participated in football, basketball and baseball. Peace was an accomplished athlete in all three sports, earning postseason honors and holding many school records.

During his football career, he earned CCC first team honors as a senior (2010). During his basketball career, he earned CCC first team honors as a senior (2011). During his baseball career, he earned CCC first team honors as a senior (2011).

Peace holds five school record in football: completion percentage in a season at 54.8 percent (2010), punt return attempts in a season with 15 (2009), punt return attempts in a career with 36 (2007-10), punt return yards gained in a season with 199 (2010and punt return yards gained in a career with 502 (2007-10).

Peace also holds or is tied for four school records in baseball: at-bats in a season with 91 (2010), tied for stolen bases in a game (twice) with four (2008 and 2010), stolen bases in a season with 22 (2009), and stolen bases in a career with 70 (2008-10).
