GREENVILLE – Individuals attending the Piqua-Greenville basketball games on Feb. 5 are invited to bring in canned goods, which will be donated to local food pantries: The Bethany Center in Piqua and FISH in Greenville.

“The school with the highest number of donated canned food items will receive the ‘Battered Can Award’ between the first and second quarter of the varsity game that night,” PHS Key Club President Ashley Ho said. “This is the first time this award will be given, and we will continue this tradition next year at home games between Piqua and Greenville. This is a friendly competition, which will benefit a food pantry in each community.

“We are excited to be donating food items to our local food pantries especially since the holidays are over and the need is still very high,” Ho said. “Athletic Director Chip Hare also loved the idea and OK’d it right away. Everyone attending the game can give back to their community this way.”

“Boxes will be provided at the high school to collect the canned goods for both schools and game patrons are certainly welcome to donate more than one item,” PHS Key Club advisor Kim Bean said.

The freshmen boys will begin play at 4:30 p.m. Junior varsity boys play at 6 and, the Varsity game follows at 7:30.
