BROOKVILLE – The Tri-Village Lady Patriots took to the floor opening sectional tournament play with Springfield Catholic Central in the first round of the Ohio High School Athletic Association Brookville Division IV sectional tournament and came away with an 82-8 win.

The Fighting Irish would pose no obstacle in this one as the Patriots came out shooting … and they were hot.

Just four minutes into the game Tri-Village had 20 points on the board before Catholic Central finally broke the ice and scored as well.

There was very little scoring by Central in fact the Irish only scored eight points in the entire game.

Allie Downing scored 14 and Rachel Miller eight points in the opening frame as the Patriots went up 31-2.

“I thought we came out ready to play, which sometimes has been a struggle for us. We had a little different look in our eye,” Tri-Village girls basketball coach Brad Gray said.

“I was very pleased with how we shot the ball overall, and for Rachel Miller to come out and hit some shots early, well, that opens things up for other kids on our team,” Gray said.

Downing’s hot hand continued into the second quarter with another 10 points as the Patriots led at the break 49-6.

In the third quarter Danika Mann scored six points in the paint and Shelbey Dowler had four as the Patriots upped their lead to 63-8.

Emma Printz scored the trifecta with three triples in the final stanza and Alana Moore chipped in six points inside as the Patriots advanced to the next round by the score of 82-8.

“To see Emma Printz come out and hit shots in the fourth, for me that’s the big thing,” Gray said.

“We are going to see a lot of zones, and it’s encouraging to see us knocking down perimeter shots in this gym because it isn’t very easy to shoot in,” Gray said.

Downing had 28 points, Miller had 12, Printz 11 and Dowler 10 to lead Tri-Village in the win over Catholic Central.

The Patriots will play Yellow Springs at 6 p.m. Tuesday in round two at Brookville.
