Versailles girls bowling team finishes 4th at sectionals

HUBER HEIGHTS – The Versailles girls plus individuals from Ansonia and Mississinawa Valley qualified for districts with their performances in the Ohio High School Athletic Association sectional tournament at Poelking Marian Lanes.

The Versailles girls finished fourth out of 20 teams in the sectional bowling tournament to claim one of the 10 spots in the district tournament. The Lady Tigers rolled games of 839, 790 and 887 for a three-game series of 2,516. They then had baker games of 183, 175, 152, 155, 221 and 160 for a total score of 3,562. Versailles only finished behind champion Mechanicsburg (3,923), runner up Northwestern (3,637) and third place Graham (3,562).

Individually for Versailles senior Olivia Bruening finished 10th overall with games of 203, 158 and 203 for a three-game series of 564. Senior Hannah Niekamp had games of 155, 181 and 214 for a 550 series, placing 15th overall. Junior Maggie Hedrick rolled a 170 and a 167, sophomore Makenzie Berning rolled a 175, freshman Morgan Heitkamp rolled a 164, junior Brooke Condon rolled a 148, and junior Brigette Holsapple rolled a 136.

Mississinawa Valley finished 11th as a team, finishing just 22 pins out of district-qualifying spot. The Lady Hawks had games of 723, 769 and 750 for a three-game series of 2,242. They then rolled a 116, 87, 121, 137, 111 and 133 in the bakers, giving them a total of 2,947, just 22 pins behind 10th place Clinton-Massie.

Individually for Mississinawa Valley junior Spencer Warren finished second overall with games of 222, 207 and 202 for a three-game series of 631, just eight pins behind sectional champion Lauren Mayberry of Mechanicsburg. Warren qualified for districts as an individual along with MV junior Kayla Harris, who had games of 130, 168 and 165 to place 38th overall with a 463 series, earning one of the 10 individual spots at districts.

Mississinawa Valley junior Tiffany Westfall rolled games of 138, 169 and 101 for a three-game series of 408 to finish 51st. Sophomore Payton Reichard had games of 119, 96 and 165 as she finished 66th with a 380 series. Sophomore Elizabeth Mangas had games of 114, 129 and 117 for a 360 series, placing 72nd overall.

The Ansonia girls placed 16th as a team with a 2,621 total score. The Lady Tigers had games of 627, 607 and 617 for a three-game series of 1,851. They then rolled a 150, 124, 105, 126, 148 and 117 in the bakers.

Ansonia junior Madison Stover qualified for districts as an individual as she rolled games of 167, 180 and 159 for a three-game series of 506, placing 25th overall.

Also for the Tigers, senior Meghan Wilson rolled games of 138, 106 and 152 to place 55th. Junior Katelynn Yeagle placed 78th with games of 120, 121 and 102 for a 343 series. Senior Jordan Campbell finished 82nd as she rolled games of 98, 93 and 124 for a 315 series. Junior Molly Walls scored a 107, sophomore Becca Thornhill rolled a 104, and junior Audrey Kelly had an 80.

Ansonia’s Stover, Mississinawa Valley’s Harris, Mississinawa Valley’s Warren and the Versailles girls now will bowl in the OHSAA district tournament at 9:45 a.m. Thursday at Beaver-Vu Lanes in Beavercreek.
