Versailles softball team earns its 1st MAC win

VERSAILLES – The Versailles softball team earned its first Midwest Athletic Conference game on Tuesday, defeating St. Henry 9-2.

After both teams scored a run in the first inning, Versailles took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the second. St. Henry cut Versailles’ lead to 3-2 in the top of the third before Versailles added five in the bottom of the third and one in the fifth.

Versailles had 12 hits and two errors in the game. St. Henry had six hits and four errors.

Kristin Langston went 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored for Versailles. Cori Lawrence went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Aimee Powell was 2-for-4 with a double and scored a run. Hailey McEldowney was 2-for-4 and scored a run.

Sarah Gigandet went 1-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored. Ashlee Voisard was 1-for-4. Kami McEldowney drove in a run. Lauren Heitkamp, Courtney McEldowney and Kate Stammen each scored a run.

Heitkamp pitched the complete game, allowing one earned run and one unearned run on six hits, no walks and six strikeouts.

Versailles improved to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the MAC with the win while St. Henry fell to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the MAC.
