Mississinawa Valley baseball team loses to Newton

UNION CITY – Mississinawa Valley lost 12-2 to Newton in a Cross County Conference baseball game on Thursday.

Newton took an early lead with a run in the first inning, three in the second and three in the third to make it 7-0. MV scored one in the bottom of the third, Newton scored one in the top of the fourth, and MV scored one more in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-2. Newton then added a run in the fifth and three in the seventh.

Mississinawa Valley had four hits and seven errors in the game. Newton had 11 hits and no errors.

Trent Collins led MV’s offense by going 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Colyn Nelson was 1-for-2 with a run. Zach Dirmeyer and Tyler Jenkinson both went 1-for-3. Devan Rinderle was hit by a pitch and scored a run.

Nelson pitched three innings for Mississinawa, allowing one earned run and six unearned runs on five hits, one walk and three strikeouts. Collins pitched four innings and allowed three earned runs and two unearned runs on six hits, one walk and eight strikeouts.
